I recently did a water change 2 days ago and I put some API stress coat in my tank. Today i finally found a shop that carries Purigen and Prime. I know that the API stress coat will foul the purigen and make it toxic so my question is...what do I do? Do I have to do another water change before I put the purigen in? Or does the fouling and toxic process only apply when recharging purigen with API products instead of using Prime?

Run fresh carbon to pull the stress coat after dosing (?)
I don't use the product but am a big fan of Purigen/Prime.

Seeking others Opinions..

I believe the biggest problem with using stress coat and purigen is if you use it when recharging the purigen (after the bleach/water soak).

It isn't the stress coat as a whole that is the problem, but rather the stress coat slime protector. If it is present, it will render your purigen lethal. Avoid using purigen for a couple weeks, while doing several large water changes, up to 50%.

agree....

aww man...this stuff is getting more confusing. I did more research on the seachem site about my question and I found this....

http://www.seachem.com/support/forums/showthread.php?t=196

In a nut shell it says...that its okay 2 put it in the tank with other chems in there but its only during the recharging process that it becomes bad when an amine based polymer is used. However, I read on another site that conflicts with what it says from another seachem tech saying that NO amine based polymer should even be in the tank prior 2 use. **** it...im jus gonna do as wyldfya says and do the water changes before I use it....better safe than sorry! Thanx 4 all your feedback guys!

It is ok to use the purigen in the tank with other dechlorinators, but when you go to recharge, the 'slime coating' will still be there.

so basically what your saying is that it will be fine in the tank but when it comes time to recharge it...because there were amine based polymers in the tank to begin with from the stress coat or another dechlorinator like tetra aquasafe (they both have slime coating) that it can't or shouldn't be recharged anymore even if I use Prime during the recharging phase.
