ive done a whole lot of research on what i want to get for my next tank. ive made a decision that i want a silver arowana and a shovel nose catfish. i really want a red tail catfish, but im affraid i cant afford a big enough home for him:cry:

anyways

at my lfs they are selling a 300 gallon tank. at fist thought i thought " this would be the PERFECT tank for what i want!!!!". until i found out the dimensions. the dimensions are 84''x24''x37''. the 2 feet wide got me and i was devistated cause there selling the tank, stand and canopy for 900$. but i just dont think it will be a good enough home for my 2 fish i want. please give me input and advise, i would greatly appriciate it.

Take a look at building a plywood tank it not that hard. the sealing is the hard part I use blue max it worked great, epoxy failed when I tried it.

You made the right decision on that tank.

For the arowana IMO you need at least a 96x30" fooprint to house a silver aro for life. Though it may be that you would still need a larger tank should the aro grow to close to 3 foot.

I have no experience with the catfish though, I believe they can grow fairly large.

a RTC and shovelnose will need 300+ gallons of space depending on how big they get. People have said an RTC will need more then 600 gallons of space at adulthood.

Tyler, cant you make a deal out of it.. is it a brand new tank? see if someone wants a tank like that.. jus buy it for 900$ and sell it for a thousand :) or a little more.. and then you might have the dough to buy a tank for a silver. anyway jokes apart.. i'm assuming you want to buy a smaller silver and grow him.. this tank should last a silver for quite a bit.. and when you know he needs a new tank do the change. cheers.

kaya, i would love to buy it and sell it but there just isnt a huge fish market where i live, arlington/mansfield texas. i wish there was but there just isnt. and yes i do want to buy a small one and watch him grow but i want to buy a tank that he can stay in there for his whole life (hopefully) ive givin up on the rtc cause they get massive but there awesome. so i pretty much only want a arowana now. i would like to build a pond but the wife will not allow that at all. i finally convenced her so i could get a big fish tank.

ive decided to skip out on that tank and to get another one. i dont know about the quality so hopefully someone on here can tell me, i was thinking the 375- 8 tall its 98''x36''x25'' for $1800. Fair price for big tank i think. but has anyone on here bought a tank from them?

i really wish the moderators didnt have to read each post but w.e,ive decided to build my own tank like i see a lot of people doing. im going to do some more research before i jump in to early. but after reading for about 3 hours and my post still not popping up on my thread ive learned that glass cages really isnt the best place to buy a tank. any way thanks for all the help and i will keep yall posted on my build
