Hi members i would like to know about the true albino clown knife .I saw many picture that is posted of juvenile albino CK some with a few spots on the body that looks like chitala ornata, and some with no spots at all which i suspected is a albino chitala lopis. How many species of asian albino knife are there in the aquarium trade?
I have kept very small albino CK without spots a few years back when it was first release in the aquarium trade ,it grew very slow and do not grow very big i belief is not chitala ornata ,disappointed i sold them away.
My question is will a true albino CK spots stay when it grow up ,or will it vanish or fade away as it mature?
I have not seen a fully mature live adult specimen albino CK with spots or even a picture or video clip , i hope any member have a picture to share.I m still looking for a big albino clown knife with spots on the body to add on to my monster com tank.:D
I hope any members can share their experience with me .

Many Thanks cheers!:)

Yes the adult albino CK retains it's spots when large. I too had the small version with no spots. It too did not grow for me. However, my recent ACK is large and with spots. Hope this helps.

Thanks dookie for your reply may i know how big is your ACK ? Hope you can post a picture of it for all to see !:)

Actually Ernest, Albino Clown Knifes all have spots, if I'm not wrong. It is just very light or not that visible, like mines as an example, sometimes when I take pictures I can see glowing yellow spots but when I look at it in person, I dont see any spots. I think as they get bigger it might get a bit darker-more visible.

A big thank you Hao for your explanation and time spend to upload the picture as i will be looking forward for my albino clown knife soon, will prefer a big specimen with spots if possible .
I do not want to get the small spotless breed again that i saw a lot in LFS recently as i cant confirm how big it will grow up. .:D

With captive breeding some albino CK have no spots. Same with the regular CK, some just don't have spots.

Thanks King-eL yes i agree with your opinion some regular Ck have no spots or less spots , but to be sure i getting a albino chitala ornata breed i will get one with spots looks better & cool .

Good luck! :D

I've seen Albino C. Ornata and N. Notopterus. It's possible that an Albino C. Lopis is out there, but it woulb be very difficult to tell the difference between Spotless Albino C. Ornata and an Albino C. Lopis.

I'm actually hoping the spottings become more pronounce with size and age on an Albino CK.
