QUESTION ABOUT ALBINO OSCARS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Look guys he is asking about something that we have both seen in a video, my LFSM and i are close friends. He breeds oscars and also believes that albinos, at least naturally occuring ones tend to have less of an agro level. It is my opinion that possibally the albinos have a harder time as youngsters. Does anybody know if you get wild albinos? Im assuming you dont.
On another subject i am also english, he said hard reffering to how aggresive/capable the fish in question was. The majority of Oscars will reach roughly the same size when adult its just albinos always seem to be picked on.
Sorry for the essay but on a funny note the video in question was a piranha of good size (8") beating on a (12") albino Oscar and alot of people commented stating "That would be a different story with a tiger strain" the same was said about the red.
Serius answers would be much appreciated as i dont have time for bickering and im really interested to see if anybody has any facts on this matter. Thanks guys!!!

Oscars are not generally very aggresive and IMO I don't feel the outcome would be any different no matter what type Oscar was in the tank with a hungry Piranha.
Albino Oscars do happen naturaly however they do not normaly survive predation in the wild, so adults are rarely if ever incountered.

You're friends use of profanity should not be tolerated on this site. He may or may not be aware of the fact that young children also use this site to converse and learn about fishkeeping. IMO he should be banned for his out of control outburst, he will not be taken seriously by most if not all of the users that read that embarresing display profanity. I will never reply to one of his threads.

Aquanero, i fully understand the rules of this forum and i very rarely step out of line, my line of thinking with the Oscars is are they naturally weaker due to not normally surviving? I have been nothing but respectful on these forums so throwing an inslut my way will do you no favors.

I didn't throw any insult your way, and I'm not looking for any favors. I answered your question. What I said about the OP I ment. Back to your question.

Albino oscars don't survive in the wild because of thier color not because they are phyisicly weaker. They can not hunt or avoid predation as effectly because of thier lack of camoflage so thier chances of survival to adulthood are slim.

well IMO i dont really care if i get banned from this stupid site got better things too do i was just asking a simple question there was no need to insult me like that when u knew exactly wat i was sayin, and this aint the 1st time its happened to me !!!!!!

IMe w/ Oscars.. they are like small yappy dogs.. their bark is generally worse then their bite. I have an Albino and a Tiger.. My Albino rules the tank. He's one sassy bugger. But I doubt he'd hold up long against any other truely aggro cichlid. The majority of Oscars I've seen/worked with over the years showed this "big bossy brute" mentality but caved very fast when faced with a truely "aggresive" fish.. such as a hungry piranha. Their where exceptions to this rule, but not many. One of said Oscars was raised in a tank of african cichlids, so his surroundings where hostile to begin with from a young age.
