Always eats off of the bottom. They very rarely swim above the ground. Usually they do that for air if there are water problems.

When you make a tank brackish, you will need a hydrometer to measure the salinity. You will also need marine salt, not aquarium salt. If you just add in 1/4 cup of salt per gallon the fish will die/become stressed and so will the beneficial bacteria. You need to acclimate the water.

I used to do about 10% water changes every week and all the new water that was added would have a quarter cup salt per gallon. So that's about 3/4 cups of salt in a week. The salinity should not rise more than .002 in a week, with .001 rise a week being more ideal.

What's the recommended amount? Are you measuring it with a hydrometer?

i think i opened a can of worms >< lol, i just read the side of the box and put that amount in.. i have add water since but no salt.. and no i dont have a hydrometer.

first time having a tank in 15 years >< i just trusted the pet shop guy and what he said

About the worst think you can do in this hobby! What kind of salt? How much exactly did you add to what size tank? Please get a hydrometer tomorrow.

I don't get it... We told you your tank is too small for a DG. Plecos & loaches won't appreciate any kind of salt at all. Yet you got a DG anyway & are subjecting the pleco & your other FW fish to BW?

And what aggressive fish do you have in there?

at the size it is right now the tank is fine. it can still move freely and doesnt look like its having trouble.

for the salt i had like 2 Table spoons a few months ago, its aquarium salt. (and never put any in since)

i have no aggressive fish in the tank...

the guy from the pet store is privately owned

Don't put any aggressive fish with your DG. He will get picked on. I had mean little f***ers and they ripped up the fins on my Snakeman. He's ok in the 20 gall on for right now, but those loaches and that pleco will not fair well, if you convert to brackish while they are in it. If you want to keep your goby, I would see what the biggest tank size you can go to is. If you convert to all brackish, find your loaches and pleco a new home, so you can keep the goby. I adore my DG, and love watching him swim. We have had him for almost 2 years and he's a bit over 13 inches. They love their tube, and stay there most of the time. Occasionally they do swim up the walls, but not because the water quality. The younger one will actually perch near the surface for about an hour, as if sunbathing. They really do not move around as much as people make them out to, or at least mine aren't. They look like big mean fish, but are some of the gentlest, and slowest ones I know. I know that I have seen my ID sharks flip out and slam into the walls of a tank, but these guys when spooked just swim away and around, they don't move fast enough to actually slam themselves. They are designed to "stick" to the glass.

These are my two:

i've bin looking for another tank like a 60g.. i think i can fit it in my place.. if i move things around lol

a 13" wow, mine moves around the bottom and likes to dig another entrance under the castle... its weird watching him.
