Alright, I bought a new Rena Filstar XP3 and have it hooked up to my 90 Galleon Tank, my water is clear and clean but not Crystal Clear like my Fish Tank. Can I get it that clear with turtles are is that unrealistic? While its a 90 Gal Tank, I am using swallow water so I only have about 20 Gals in there, for Filtration I have the included foam on the bottom, second level is Chem Stars and Ceramic balls for Bio and one more foam Pad, and on the top I am using the included Charcoal pack, two Microfilter Pads and Polishing material.

dont worry about bio filtration with turtles, sometimes the best thing to do is just have heavy mechanical filtration and do 100% water changes every other week or so. The bio filtration does very little for the turtles. They are very messy so I would recommend a filter with a rating of at least twice the size of the tank they are in to keep the water nice but even then frequent large water changes are needed.

How many turtles do you have and what kind and size are they?

give the filter a little time. If you just got it and the media is new it will be a little cloudy till it flushes itself out a bit. Aside from that I have no advice. I know little to nothing about turtle keeping

I agree with snake guy. Even with a solid WC routine and heavy filtration, I don't think I have every seen a pristine turtle tank. They can be really messy. I would probably add another filter to help keep things clear. I generally like to run 2 XPs on 90G tanks.

I keep my 125 gallon with 3 5-7 inches Sliders pretty clear. I use a fx5 with a ac110. First thing you could do is try and add more water depending on what kind of turtle it is. I have my tank full with above tank basking area. It also helps alot I do a 10 gallon water change every other day.

Just did that today, also added more plants on one side so they can have more hiding areas. Pics of new set-up.

Get more water in there. Water turtles are just that, WATER turtles. They love swimming. This will also help keep the waste diluted. Even you don't fill it to the trim and have them bask above the trim (what I suggest) at least add enough water to get the water as high as possible to give them just enough space to bask under the screen (leave just a few inches).

I was able to keep my water very clean. I had a 40breeder with an Whisper 5 (the big one they don't make anymore that took two XL bio bags) and a Fluval 304 (later I swapped the Whisper 5 for an AC110). I did 50% water changes when they were hatchlings and upped it to 100% weekly when they were all about 3-4" (the snapper was 7-8" by then). There were also goldfish in there.

It is just a matter of MAJOR overfiltration and massive water changes, but you can match fish water quality in a turtle tank.

What kind of turtles?
How many?
How big?

That is about as much water as I can safely add since one of them is a Hatching Alligator Snapper and they cannot swim well, so I need the water low enough that he can climb up plants to breath. There is a method to my madness, in why I don't have deeper water. The other turtles are also very small, the RES, Softshell, and Map are all about 2 inches long. Right now I have nearly 40 gals of water in a 90 gal tank.

Okay, that sounds better than it looked at first.

How is the alligator snapper settling in?

I assume you already know to be super careful with all those beign combined in there.

What are you feeding?

The AST is doing quite well, very docile so far and SO far he hasn't been an issue towards the other turtles, but I am watching like a hawk and the minute snaps at them, I will get his own tank. He is also quite curious and likes watching me, and will come to me when I mess around in the tank and doesn't mind being handled. The other turtles are being feed Terta Brand Turtle sticks in both the Shrimp and Fish Meal versions, frozen Turtle food thawed out that has more vegetable matter, raw carrots for color, shrimp, and blood worms. The AST is only eating feeder Fish right now, but I am trying to wean him on the same diet as the others.
