Overall, the overflows in the tank should stop almost as soon as the water stops coming into the tank. From there you will get residual water flor from the pipes that fills in the sump. You just have to make sure that you sump can handle the extra water. Having the sump inside a tote would help with that and prevent any accidents. I think a 20 would do the job just fine as far as filtration is concerned.
