question about fish with oscar and others

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh, yeah. With super filtration I can see that working. It's just that most 55's are only 12" wide, so when someone says a 55 is good enough, they might assume the tall, common version to suffice. Which it would, for the first year or so. I've often admired the carrying capacity of tanks with good surface area. Either way, we are agreed in that an Oscar demands much space all by itself.

MY oscar will end up killing him then, right because oscars like the boss so the first sign that the jack is trying to take over the take my oscar would kill him.

all I have in the tank are 3 little fake plants. The bleeki is pretty much dead. it is on its side barely breathing I found my divider and put it back in to see if I can save him. He is really torn up, How can I save him? he has some pretty large white spots on him. I had an earth eater that stood head to head with my jack and would fight back for one day but over night my oscar ate him, it name started with a g and was very long could I maybe put on back in?

No, usually oscars are pretty docile.

Stop adding fish. Control the damage and rethink your strategy here. Do you want a lot of unhappy fish or a few happy ones?

My oscar already killed my other oscar that have been in the same tank since I bought him. my is already getting mad at my jack once in a while. My oscar seems like he is pretty agressive. A more aggresive fish couldn't calm the jack down like a red terror?

Your reality is actually an incorrect opinion. An oscar is to big for a 55 gallon tank, period. Discussion over.
ok then in my opinion a 55 gallon given the right dimensions is fine for one oscar. thats unless it grows to 16 inchs. i have alwasy heard the min tank size for an oscar was a 55 gallon my friend has kept his oscar in a 55 gallon for 8 years and the fish is still happy and 13 inchs.obviosly bigger is better but im saying it will live in a 55 gallon. end of discussion.

My oscar is now being more aggressive against my oscar, I'm afraid he might kill my oscar. Can anyone help?

You may need to separate them. You never know temperaments, and sounds like your jack may have to be alone.
