How about aOsphronemus (Giant Gourami)? Correct me if i spelled wrong. :D
They have a lot of personality and are true gentle giants.

These can be anything but true gentle giants. My pink killed a silver arrow of similar size, he continually tormented my largest oscar until I had to remove him and devours goldfish before my clown knife can get near them, even if they don't fit in his mouth he will bash them against the glass to fit them down. This is not a one off either, I know others with GG's with similar attitude.

well i certainly do not want anything like that, what do you guys think about keeping some different geophagus sp with some frontosas?

uhh i would say just frontosa's. They are active fish and very beautiful. I forget your tank size but you could even put a ray in their if it was big enough...I think frontosa's make a beautiful tank

why not oscars??

you have a nice size tank, and with proper feeding, and keeping a group of 4-5 atleast, their wont be much aggression at all.

IMO, oscars get mean and nasty when cramped in small tanks. otherwise, their like little puppy dogs, with lots of personality, who would rather loaf around the tank lazily than fight. ive owned a few oscars, and all were in large tanks, and showed no aggression towords other fish.

otherwise, theres always pacu :D however, you would most definatly need a larger tank eventually. their as gentle as giants come.

how big is considered a giant??
that is a good question.
i guess the fish that i have been considering are probably not considered giants to alot of people on here.
i will try to specify a little more

i've got a 210
fx5 and filstar xp4
colorquartz tgrade
2 large pieces of driftwood
numerous 'caves' made with lace rock
silk plants

looking for:
2-3 fish around the 8-15 inch range (i was thinking fronts/geophagus)
4-5 around the 5-8 inch range (thinking blue ahli's/kandango)
10-ish silver dollars
5-6 blue/bolivian rams

anyone see a problem with this? would the rams get destroyed by the others?

no ray's not big enough. Personally I don't see anything wrong with your list. I might not get the rams though. i second the tinfoil barbs. Gorgeous fish that you don't see big much, and active.
