how fast do they grow and is a 10 gallon big enough for one that is 1 1/2" for a little while.

I have had one grow around an inch a month until the 10 inch mark. After this, the slow down alot. Your ten would work for a few-no more than 3-months.

what is the max size of a lsn
i dont really know alot about catfish. so i figured i would post on here and research them.

The biggest Lima i have ever seen personally was 12 inches(i could have bought him for 24.99) they might get a bit larger though.A 10 gal will work for maybe a month to a month and a half, with no tankmates.

i think its about 18" max generally, althought i have heard of bigger ones occasionally

ok thanks for the info.

There are members on here with LSN's over 20" ... 10 gal is hardly suitable for guppies but in a pinch you can get away with it for awhile... just remember that the smaller the tank .. the more water problems you have and swings you'll get in your params ... which means the more likly you are to have issues with your fish

Good post!!!

20 inches is certainly an outlier. 18 inches is rare in a home tank under 300 gallons. 12-14 inches is more of the norm for these guys in a home tank...

I really recommend not buying something like this for a 10 gallon with "plans" on moving it to a bigger tank. Wait till the bigger tank is available. It's not like these guys are all that rare and will never be available again. Don't mess with putting one in a tiny tank on the if/come that a larger tank will be available soon...

never heard of people getting limas that small it should be fine in a 10 gallon till its about 5'' or so they have been know to grow pretty fast especially if in big tanks

as for size 18'' is about max in aquariums unless your tank is very large in which case 24'' isn't uncommon the largest recorded lima from the wild was 30'' so yes they get much bigger in the wild then they do in captivity but can still reach 24'' in aquariums
