try hand feeding it i just got mine 4 days ago and he is hand feeding already. also i think a 10gallon is too small already i would try and go to home depot and get some ply wood and pond liner and make a indoor pond then build a filter. :) hope this helps.
 
If you are absolutely certain you will have a larger tank in less than 3 months, go ahead and buy it now. As mentioned, these fish are not rare, and it is not like you will never see one again, so there is no harm in waiting a while.
