Question about my marulioides

a friend of mine just got back from a fishing trip in the remote jungle in Trengganu. (East Peninsular Malaysia) and guess what the lake is full of channa maruloides !! Unfortunately none of the 18 fishes caught survived. What a waste. They actually brought along mobile oxygen pump and also container to store the fish but too bad lady luck was not with them. According to them, initially they used frogs as bait but those wild breed maruloides dont give any damn on the frogs. Lastly they resorted using chicken liver chumps and guess what the maruloides started to chased the lure...not all the lured was successfully..at one attempt one of line was snapped while fighting with an overgrown maruloides near the lake bank ! the escaped fish was estimated at the size of 3kg plus. according to my friend all those 18 fishes caught possessed distinctive coloration and with full grown 6-8 band flowers (blotches)...

to bad the fish didn't make it though :(
maybe they can find juveniles another time, easier to transport small ones i guess?
