I know the Python is not supposed to be a fish waste picker-upper, only a water changer. The way my tank is set up, I have either 45 or 50 ft of hose to my tank from the utility tub in the laundry room [with some loops of slack in the hose] When I switch to the bathroom sink, I can remove the extension and get away with the original 25 feet of hose. The second method lifts the lighter fish waste. Probably has something to do with being closer, better suction, and the faucet is closer to the ground than in the laundry room.

So my mom's not too fond of me using the bathroom for my water changes.

My question is... Is there any way to get a smaller diameter tube on my Python? If I had a skinnier tube, I could get better suction and clear a lot of waste.

Any ideas?

I do use the tiny hand held siphon into a bucket for spot cleaning every few days, but I hate it lol.

i tried different things and ended up using a 1/2" pvc about 30" long w/ 90 degree elbow followed by a hose fitting.hook it up to my hose and run it into the bathroom.it makes cleaning very easy and pulls waste to it from about 3" around it but i have to be careful with my tile tanks due to it will grab them and pull the tile up.

Wow. That is an awesome idea! Think I could get away with 1"? Do I have to go as small at .5"?

If you want more suction you have to turn the sink handles on full....

With my sink running full open I can get enough suction to pick up all my waste, even the pleco poop. Once I've cleaned the sand thoroughly enough I shut the sink off and let it siphon the rest of the water out on it's own.

Sounds great! I'm going to build the new piece on Wednesday since I work the next 2 days. Hopefully it goes well. Doesn't sound too hard. May order some clear PVC for it too.
