Question about nitrates

Makes about as much sense as people claiming to have nitrate levels of 0...

There have been several studies that I've read online observing that increased levels of nitrates (100-200ppm or even higher) are rarely harmful to most species of fish, let alone fatal. They can thrive and reproduce at those levels.

Do you have links to any of these studies?

Does anyone here have links to similar studies?

I am not saying that I disbelieve you. I would just like to read more about it

Purigen is a godsend for me. Helps me keep my nitrates under 40 ppm when they come out of the tap at 20-30. I am a bit OCD so you might have guessed the tap nitrates piss me off to no end

No worries on it being an old thread. I think its informational enough to be bumped. Definitely an interesting take on the situation anyway.

I need to order massivore again, so I think when I do that, I'm going to put in a large order for Purigen as well. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Seems like it couldn't hurt and the fact that its regeneratable (is that even a word - its too early) makes it more than worth the money.

I think MFK members strive for 0 nitrates or extremely low values because we love our species so much, love DIY projects, and are curious fish-keeping individuals that will do almost anything to give our species the best water parameters period.
