I bought two pacu's about a month ago and they were very small. I started to notice that they were growing at a very fast rate at least a few inches since ive had them so I looked them up on the web and found out how big they can get and how fast. I really wish the people at petco would have told me because I only have a 30 gallon tank but I have grown to like them very much they are a really cool fish they will eat just about anything even some of the other smaller fish that were in my tank sadly. Anyway I still want to keep these fish I have already priced a 55 gallon tank at a pretty good price. I would like to put the pacus in there. I am wondering if a 55 gallon tank would it be good enough for at least a year untill I can find something bigger? If you don't think that they would be okay in than I will have to get rid of them because they will outgrow this tank in a couple months I have owned big fish before and i'm not going to keep them in the tank I have now. If anybody knows about pacu's please give me your input on this situation, thanks.

Just cut your losses man. I had a few in my 240 once, by themselves, and I got rid of them because there wasn't enough room. These things can get two feet. Think about that. Reeeaally think about it. I know you like them and all but be realistic.

minimum for two pacu would be 300g

^with a wide footprint.

personally, I wouldn't put them in anything less then 8x4x2, long term.

In a year they will be 12+ inches WAY to big for that 55. I would say a 110 would be the bare min that would hold them for one year. You really need a 300min with a wide footprint to hold two by themselves permanently and I think that is really pushing it. I had two that were a year old and one was 14 inches and the other was 12.

Haha yall beat me to the punch

Classic Petco right there. Yeah if you can find someone that is willing to care for them, unload them. Once they get to 20"+ and 10lbs, youll have a very very hard time finding a home for them. Just not that many people out there running tanks in the 600+ gallon range that have room for a beast like that. Its sad that Petco even carries them, I venture to guess that 99% of their customer base would never be able to properly house one.
