in front of my cichla tank,IL
is it ok to keep pike cichlids in a planted tank
and is it ok to keep one with convict cichlids?
sorry i am new to pike cichlids so i was just wondering

what size is the tank? what kind of pikes are you looking to do? dwarf pikes such as regani, wallici, and compresiceps would do good in tanks from 10g up. saxatilis and reticulata type pikes can be kept in tanks 55g and up, lugubris require anywhere from 75g up but would not do good with small tank mates.

yes and yes.....

I don't think ANY pikes should be kept in anything smaller than a 30gal tank. The dwarfs my be smaller, but they are still just as aggressive, and need their space.

Really those are the minimum requirements for Crenicichla. Generally though, you want to go bigger than the minimum. Generally, dwarfs do MUCH better if kept in 40 to 55gal tanks, Saxatilis do better in 75gal and up, and Lugubris do better in 100gal and up. You can NEVER go too large, but you CAN go too small. ;)

Aye!! Crenicichla are awesome for planted tanks, they actually look best in one if you can pull it off. They are one of the few cichlids that doesn't tear the plants up or mess with them. Highly recommend a planted tank with pikes.

Yes you can keep pikes with Convicts. Most cichlids in general actually. They are so diverse, you can about find a pike for almost any setup. ;)

You are showing that you have a pair of convicts though in a 10gal tank. Putting a pike in there would just not be a good idea. If you want to go that route, you'll either have to put them in the 55gal, or buy a bigger tank. Just not going to work in the tanks you have right now. If you moved your p's then it could work, but I don't think you want to do that.
Hope that helps some! :D

i was wondering if i can put a pike cichlid with cons cuz i was thinking about putting them in the 30 that im starting to set up right now
and thankyou u did help some

you could go for some dwarf pikes but they can be mean little guys they love planted tanks dwarf pikes need acidic water just so you know but they can adapt

Really they only need acidic water if you are wanting to breed them...;). That goes for practically all pikes really. Idealy, almost all Crenicichla should be kept in soft, acidic water. Not everyone can provide those conditions though. Thankfully Crenicichla are very adaptable, and accept a wide variety of water parameters.
