I'm sure this question, and those like it are asked often, but I can't find the information I'm looking for online or in the MFK search.
I think pumpkinseed are beautiful fish that I've always wanted to keep one or multiple of and recently moved near lake St. Clair where they are, according to residents, relatively plentiful. For the first time in my life I've been close enough to a body of water where I can pick some up, but I am not sure about local and state regulations and restrictions as far as collecting and keeping in aquarium in Michigan. I live in Michigan and have a Michigan fishing license and as far as I'm aware these fish don't have a season or limit that I could find. I couldn't find any specific restrictions on collection or keeping in aquariums for Michigan online, the stickies on this page are all dead links, and I'm not really going to trust Google's AI crawl so I figured I would ask here. Are there any guidelines I need to follow when collecting Pumpkinseeds in Michigan from Lake St. Clair to keep in an aquarium?
In addition to this I'm finding conflicting care information online in regards to actually keeping pumpkinseeds. What size tank, specific water parameters, common diseases to watch out for, aquarium decor (or lack of) and hiding preferences, and diet requirements am I looking at here? Interested in hearing from people who have actually kept them and were successful.
