Hello,

I was just wondering for those that use purigen how fast or soon did you see results? Just put it in today a few hrs ago as a matter of fact. All responses welcome thanks again...

I use Purigen and saw a big difference in less than 24 hours. My nitrates were so high they were not measurable "before" using Purigen. Less than 24 hours later, nitrate reading was less than 10ppm. Awesome stuff!!!

Purigen!!!

DRDREW...you are the new king master of overkill ha ha

I use the stuff on my planted tank, but probably going to stop. Most of my nutrients now are needed, and with the way I do water changes I cant have purigen pulling nitrates and phosphates.

Ill say this though, if you can find a bag that holds it, its the best media on the market right now. Nothing absorbs EVERYTHING like purigen does, and its rechargable. The only downside I ever have(had) is that I think it lasts closer to three or four months VS the six they claim, and this is on my little 10g tank.

Hehehehehe!!! I do a water change "when I dang well feel like it"!!! Nitrates are, as you can probably guess, undetectable in both of my tanks. I'm using a total of 4 liters of purigen. About 1/2 liter on the 20 (or is it 29) gallon, and the rest on the 265. I'll have to just wait and see how long it goes before I have to regenerate. When I do regenerate, I'm going to regenerate it right in the reactor.

best money i ever spent,i saw a differnce the next day,you havent seen clear until you use purigen:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Please tell me where you got reactors and what pump are you using to fluidize the purigen and does in run from tank to reactor back to tank ? Thanks.

I am using two Eheim 2228 Pros that I already had, as pre-filters, to drive the reactors. The media trays are filled as follows:

Bottom: Eheim "coarse" sponge with denitrate on top
Middle: Eheim "fine" sponge with denitrate on top
Top: denitrate with Eheim "fine" sponge on top

Each 2228 "pre-filter" is running at approximately 30 gph. The 2228 pre-filter on my 20 gal is, itself, pre-filtered (the intake hose is inserted into an uplift tube on my UGF). I haven't yet determined what, if any, additional pre-filtering I'll do for the 2228 on my 265 gal.

The reactors I have are the NextReef MR1 and the NextReef MR1 "Monster". I did not have the best shopping experience with the e-tailer I used, so, I am reluctant to tell you the e-tailers' name. You would be best off to google on "nextreef" and go from there. I got a great price on each of them. The MR1 was $69 and the MR1 Monster was $143. The Monster was $30 cheaper than what Marine Depot charges!!! MR1 was significantly cheaper too, but, I don't remember by how much.

Again, I got a great price, but, I can't (in good conscience) recommend this vendor. If you are getting ready to order from an e-tailer you've never used before, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you check out their reseller ratings first!!! I was fortunate that, by the end of my journey, I received everything I ordered, but, it was one of the most least comfortable online shopping experiences I've had in a long, long time!!! In fairness, the e-tailer stepped up and addressed any inconsistency(ies) with my order, but, I never need to count on heroics and pray for integrity when I shop at somewhere such as Big Als or ThatPetPlace. Overall, it was twenty days until the reception of this order was fully complete!!! RESELLER RATINGS!!! USE THEM!!!

Thanks for the info and advice, Sorry to hear Of your bad experience seems its all too common nowadays. I will try to go thru a local dealer who will give me a fair price, and I always try to support my Local guy even though I will do Mail order w/o hesistation if they are not available locally. Best of luck.
