LoL I've never thought to use painters tape. Every tank I've resealed, I've sealed without tape. lol

Do many of you use tape?
the tape deff. isnt needed, but it will make it very easy to get perfectly straight seams.

Yep, another user of GE Silicone I here too. I debated over and over but finally just decided to use the stuff from Lowes, worked fine.

Also a note on the tape, if you do it. Pull it off AS SOON AS YOU ARE DONE. If not and you wait a minute like me the top layer of silicone will dry to the tape and it will make a huge mess, ruin all your hours of work, and make you want to smash something. Just FYI is all.

I forgot to add to make sure you do NOT get GE Silicon II, it has a stuff in it that kills mildew and fungus, not good for fish.

GE Silicon I is great I have used it may times. Just make sure you get old silicon off and then rub it down with alcohol and apply sealant. I would let it dry for 72 hours. Some times I have heard 24 hours is enough but I prefer 72 hours to be safe.
I used GE silicone I as well with no problems at all. BUT something you need to clear up in that post. GE silicone I Door and Window only NOT Kitchen and bath. Also when they originally put out GE silicone II window and door it was ok to use because it didnt have the bio seal on it but now I think they have put the bio seal in/on all the type II silicone. Bio seal means bad stuff in it that will kill your filter bacteria.

here we go, i just purchased these and im going to remove the old silicone tonight.

Is rubbing alcohol ok to use when cleaning the tank?
