First of all this is a bad comparision the 5' x 5' x 2' is a 375 gallon tank, much bigger then the 240g. Alot would depend on type fish and whether it is a community tank or not. A silver aro would be much happier in a 8' x 2' then a 4' x 4' tank IMO. I would think a community of large sa/ca cichlids would be better in the square tank.

Yeah you would have to compare the 5' x 5' x 2' to a 10' x 2.5' x 2' in which case I would rather have the the 375 gallon 10' x 30" footprint. That would be a bad A monster tank imo.

I have had square tanks and cube tanks, but rectangular are better for most fish and better for viewing. I agree with Balton777...I just ordered a L120xW32xH25 I will be done 5/19

i'd say it depends on the fish, for a highly active fast moving fish i'd prefer the longer tank to allow for more linear swimming distance, however for a group of small lazy fish i'd go for the more squarish tank.

Btw, easydoesit, I was thinking of buying a tank from glasscages, and I was told by a number of people on this site that their tanks are not well made, and crack very easily.

well this isnt good to hear lol. i dont know of any other places i could get a tank with good/unusual dimensions and sizes..
unless of course i went DIY

It really depends on the fish. For really big ones, longer is probably better. Otherwise, I think a square footprint looks really cool.
