Question about Texas "wet pet"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe get rid of the kids goldfish and put my sev in their room lol !!! Probably would out grow the 20 long rather quickly. BTW this is just a joke I wont put the sev in a 20 long.

yeah he is a little guy only about 4" I am guessing. I agree can't wait to see what he looks like as an adult. Since you have some adults do they always where the black breeding colors when a mate is in the tank or does it come an go as they breed.

When they aren't with one of the opposite sex, they tend to loose the black.
Males don't turn until spawning commences, females turn, signifying readiness to spawn.
here's a female without a male in the tank,

with a male in the tank, and pre-spawning activity

any mature female not ready to spawn, is usually in danger

Carpintis (green texas) make great wet pets and are just like an oscar that is more aggressive and better looking in my opinion.

Get a female for your Carpinti. Then you have two hot fish that U like..

Carpintis are always out and active. Digging n ripping plants and starting trouble with other fish. It is their personality in general. Some grow up adapt and become glass banger as adults. Depends on how well you keep them.

Thanks for all the info everyone you have really made my decision easier. My plan is to keep the Texas. I put him back in the main tank and moved the GT and Sev out to a holding tank. He is out and about and cruising the tank. I do have some small HRP's and FM in there so he isnt a true wet pet yet. He never has messed with smaller fish in the past but he has proven unpredictable so I expect to move them out soon. I will be moving them to tank I have in as soon as the GT and Sev are gone.

I know this is off topic but what is your avatar? Is it a platinum Flowerhorn? Very nice looking fish.
