Question: Armatus with mbu puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've owned several mbu including a large one and they are not aggressive fish. They may bite bottom dwellers like cats and I lost a couple of other smaller fish that got between the puffer and his food but they never chased or aggressively went after any tank mates. I personally doubt the mbu would be a problem.

In general fahakas are much more aggressive. Mine would tolerate nothing. A lot of people can house mbus with others. Though they will occasionally sample things and when they do it can be bad. Also there is always an occasional one that doesn't tolerate others.

armatus are slowish moving fish that get spooked easy.

I dont see that as an issue since they don't sit on the bottom. Mbu won't chase and scare the armatus.

I went back and saw they are going to be in a 180? I think that will be his issue not the tolerance of each other.

a territorial issue?

Yeah both need a lot of space, I've heard 800 min. For mbus but that always seemed a little high to me

It works, I did it for a couple years but a 180 gallon is too small of either of those fish. Like I stated before a 450 gallon wasn't big enough for an Armatus. I did the combo in a 450 gallon until my Armatus jumped and I got bored of the mbu and sold it.

armatus will not stress an 18" MBU and unless his individual MBU is very aggressive they will be fine except for the small 180 gallon tank
