I just got a 150 gallon freshwater fish tank, and i have an idea on what to put in can u tell me if there will be enough room and if it would work out..

im thinking about getting :
1.) 2 red oscar
2.) 2 albino oscar
3.) 2 tiger oscar
4.) 4 green terror
5.) 4 jack dempseys

I kinda want this combo but im not sure i had a red oscar that was 12" but he died of old age i assume or my dad killed him :( but i have a 6" red oscar now does the size matter of the new fish im getting?

and if anyone has any good tips on what type of fish to mix with my oscar could u tell me??

i will be feeding them pellits and or dried lil shrimp

but i will feed them feeders if i must...

14 large cichlids in a 6 foot tank doesn't sound like a good combo. You maybe able to get that combo to work just with not so many of them. I would maybe do like 2 oscars 2 jacks and 2 GTs MAX. That would be a iffy combo though. Oscars a pretty much softies. GTs and Jacks are pretty hardcore.

Welcome to MFK.

IMO none of us in the fish hobby are really experts. There is always something new to learn whether it be about fish or equipment.

All of the fish you have listed would end up getting really cramped in the 150 once they attained their adult size.

You could one of each, and decided on a couple other cichlids to add with them.

It would be best to get all of your cichlids at one time so as they grow up together would cause you to have more of a peaceful tank when all the fish are bigger.

The size of the oscar you have now will be a factor in decideing on new fish you get. Cause it will eat any fish that it can fit in it's mouth. So as long as the new fish don't fit, they should be fine with adaquite hiding spots.

Pellest are alwasy the best to feed IMO.

Heh, the tank is actully in my oppion alot bigger than they store sold it for. but im thinking about getting rid of my bigger oscar and getting the smaller fish and let them grow up.

if they get to big i will just buy a bigger tank :)

Also i live in florida is there anyplace i can buy a peakock bass or w/e at the store ? or is it not allowed.

But i wana try and make the fish have babies thats why im trying to pair them up.. In the end i want a tank thats fun to look at the fish are friendly and i can pet or they will swim near me when im at the tank. and im able to feed pellits.

so could u guys help me out with this?

Well, with the type of cichlids you listed it would be hard to have a pair in the tank. When they spawn they will attack the other cichlids and take over half the tank if not more.

If you want a pair of cichlids, it is best to pick the one you like the best. Buy 8 to 10 juvies and let a pair form on its own, then remove the rest of the cichlids in the tank and just leave the pair.

If you want a friendly tank like you describe, it would be best to get different sp of young cichlids and let them grow up together.

You can get Pbass in flordia very easy. Just go out fishing for some. Or if you want to buy some, one of our members Juantamad can get you pretty much anysize you want, even pairs, for a pretty reasonable price, and he is located in miami.

 tyvm im gona do a little more reasearch on the type of fish im going to get.

i like bass but i dont wana feed them live fish imo its wrong

i had 2 7" super red pirahna and the 6" oscar in the same tank and they ripped everything to shreds and i had to end up giving the super reds away to a friend after i found out they were illegal..

Anyway thanks alot im gona start looking for some healthy fish in the stores and decide.Because i have 3 days to wait anyway because i bought my tank 3 days ago.

Thanks again :headbang2 you guys rock

You could very easily get Pbass on frozen food like smelt or shrimp, even pellets. You would have to feed live forever.

Well i have 3 days to decide im going to the beach tomorrow and then fishing so if i happen to catch a Pbass ill keep him :)

When my tanks all set up with the fish i have decided to choose i will send a link to you of my tank and the fish :)

g-night all and have a good day :woot:

While you're deciding, a potentially major factor in your decision is the actual size of your tank. Before you start adding stock, take a tape measure and post the actual length, depth, and width of the tank so there's no guessing as to the actual size.
Posting your filtration/aeration setup will also help in getting accurate stocking advice.

Sorry the size is

60 inches long
18 inches wide
and about 26 inches deep

i also have a 10 gallon that i kept feeders in ill use that as my sick tank and i have a 45 gallon octagon tank that i will use if my fish are makeing babies.. but i know nothing about breeding so i hope that dosent happen..

but i think i might want to get a arrowana and a bala shark

but i like haveing atleast 2 of each fish for some reason :screwy: im weird like that.

also i have a filter that is supose to do 110 gallons and one that does 45 so theres 2 in there 1 is charcoal the outher isent..
