so i was doing some research today on HDMI cables and if name brands, like Monster, are worth the extra price tag. every site and every forum i read said that name brand HDMI cables are a huge waste of money and its just a marketing scheme. basically, youre paying for the name and a cable that looks pretty. they all suggested to go with some no-name generic brand as they all do the same.
and its makes sense too, because afterall, its a digital signal that being transferred. with the digital signal running through an HDMI cable, it either works or it doesnt. because its a digital signal, there's no such thing as poor or reduced quality; the picture is either there or it isnt. now with analog, yes, this will make a difference as a weaker signal can result in bad image quality, but not with a digital signal running through an HDMI cable.
im glad i researched this before i bought as i was thinking about getting some Monsters or Rocketfish. i just ordered some generics off ebay, got two 6ft 1.3v HDMI cables for $14, waaaaaaay better than the $100+ price tag at best buy for the name brands!
they did say however, that it might be better to go with a name brand cable when running very long lengths (20ft +) and when the cable is going through your wall as name brand cables have higher quality sheathing and can hold up to some damage better than the generics. if its in your wall, you want something that will last forever. but if its just gonna sit behind your tv, there's absolutely no need
