Hey guys. I have a question. Right now I have a large breeding group of motoros. I have 6 large females. With only 2 mature males. Now I only have 1 male in each tank. But my females are getting really beat up.. Just want to know if your females get beat up this bad? Im starting to feel bad for my females.. its like rape:(. Here are a few pics. At this time I have 4 prego females. Im going to be setting up a pond for the males in a few days. All this damage happend over night a few days ago. So you know, all rays are doing fine. I have salt in all the tanks. and there eating me outta my house!!

that looks really bad man. But that happened after the were all prego? Thats good that you have four females prego know though cause my ponds cycling how fully some one will help you

no.. this happened when the males were trying to breed with the females.. Just some very mean males

Well I know its common, but I don't think it should be that bad. I would definitely seperate them if you can at least until they heal up.

I can;t go through the link, it won't load. But it talks about breeding and it has a picture of when the chewing is too much for the females. Give it a look.

Also i remmeber it saying that if the females really don't like it they will just kill the male by stinging it. It said to make sure that the females were bigger than the males (I am sure yours probably are, but just to make sure).

I think you should just keep ur water in tip top condition and the females will recover in no time. Maybe u may want to separate the male for the time being too. Anyway awesome collection of rays u have! Congratulation!

Thanks.. I know they will be okay.. JW to know if this was going on with other pairs.. Water is great.. both setups are on a drip system

horny lil bast@rds..... I would separate them the females will be fine....

I've always looked to the female's behavior to tell me whether I need to intervene. As long as they are eating, respiration seems in the normal range and they don't seem to be distressed, I leave them together to work things out. If your females are all cycling at the same time your male may be a bit overwealmed with breeding cues- bit like a kid in a candy store.

Permissions for pix as examples to breeding injuries? :D

Brad.. do you think the males will fight if all kept togethor with no female?

I am curious if you can isolate all males, and then pick and choose which ones to "stud" out.. for more controlled breeding.
