I've always looked to the female's behavior to tell me whether I need to intervene. As long as they are eating, respiration seems in the normal range and they don't seem to be distressed, I leave them together to work things out. If your females are all cycling at the same time your male may be a bit overwealmed with breeding cues- bit like a kid in a candy store.

*Is suddenly reminded of freshman year away at college* :nilly:

Perfectly normal Brad, I wish I had some pictures of one of the leo tanks the three females are so beat up It's crazy. When the wounds get bloody and bad I removed the males and in 2 weeks the females are all healed up. Yours are not that bad I would not worry about it to much if it starts to get worse and you see bloody wounds I would take the males out and let the females heal. I think this happens with males that are not well experienced, cause in my tank with the female breeders this does not happen the males do there thing and females are very beat up. In the tank with the rays that are just maturing the males tend to be alot more aggression and do more damage.

Permissions for pix as examples to breeding injuries? :D

Brad.. do you think the males will fight if all kept togethor with no female?

I am curious if you can isolate all males, and then pick and choose which ones to "stud" out.. for more controlled breeding.

I isolate the males to one tank all the time and they never fight, Only when females are placed into the tank.

i dont have near the experience the poster above me has but i do the same thing..put male in for servicing and remove him when i'm sure he's done his business..i had 3 females that looked terrible but removed the big male and they all recovered quickly..and they all turned up pregnant!

i really don't have the experience yet but i do check out a lfs that has a pair of motoro's and the male always bites the crap out of female. the female gets hit much worse than your pics. they don't ever separate the two and she always make a full recovery. good luck keep us posted.

I agree with CSX4236, those wounds are not that bad at all. I usually pull my males when the wounds are bigger and bleeding. My males don't fight when they are together. I've had all 6 of them in the rubbermaid for awhile and there is very minimal nipping and no major injuries between the males. I have 4 males in there right now and all is good.

cool.. glad to hear.. I thought I just had some mean males.. As all these other people posting pics.. where the female looks fine.. And yes I have seen some blood.. And Miles go ahead and use the pics.. no problem. Thanks guys!!! that helps me sleep better at night

Miles-

I have 3 mature males right now in a single tank with only one mature female. One of the males constantly picks on the other two. The other 2 coexist together peacefully when the 3rd is not there. I'm planning on setting up a "just male" tank too and "studding out" the male I want to breed with to make it easier to track who the parents of the pups are. I think it just depends on the individual temperment of the male. I've got one that I'll have to watch, but the other 2 will be no problem at all.
