cool, thanks for the good info...also should i switch to a sponge type filter instead of my over the back??
u could try putting panty hose over the filter or decreasing the power, but dont take my word for it im yet to breed cons cuz im short on money and couldnt get all the stuff to start lol just look around the forum and most your questions/wories should be anwsered

You could cut a slit into a piece of ac70 foam or similar reticulated foam and slide that over your hob intake.

If you are trying to raise a large number of cons for feeder purposes or just to have a bunch of them then separating the wrigglers into a fry tank will make the parents spawn again soon after removal.

I have a pair of cons in my 187g tank and they almost always have a spawn going. I used to have an 8in BGK in that same tank that would eat the fry but since moving it to another tank the last con spawn is surviving so there's prolly 50-75 fry starting to show stripes. The cons keep the other bigger cichlids from eating the fry, they actually rule the tank atm. I might have to move the bgk back to keep them in check. I don't specifically feed the fry so they survive of food particles from feeding the bigger fish.

I would put in a sponge filter to be safe.
u think so? im thinking about doing the same as the person who started this thread im thinking to get a 55, and get a divider, parrents on one side and a grow out area on the other side, where the hob intake would be placed. u can just suck the fry out after a week with a syphon into the grow out area or a goldfish bowl for a week to let them grow a bit more without going in with the bigger cons. is that good? and i hope that gives u an idea hastyryan

I bred guppies, and i just crammed a foam pad inside my hob filter intake tube, and i dont think i lost any to the filter. A sponge filter would be the safest route tho. from what i've read you should remove the fry after 2 weeks of being wrigglers, but thats if you want to cons to spawn again.

This is what I did the pair are in a 20 gallon long with a penguin 200 and two sponges. I just put an aquaclear sponge on the penguins intake.
