Yeh because in my great grandparents time, Australia was just starting out as a newly formed country, so there's alot of hard work involved to get a country up and running, I think that's why people don't realise just how much the old generations in the past 100 years have worked in Australia. I don't know, in America, your civilsation was already established, so youse jus thad to maintain it, we had to build ours up.

I reckon if people from overseas knew how much hard work Australians have had to do since the turn of the century, they'd see my point more clearly.
lol we definitely had to build ours up 400 years ago. we still learn about early settlers in school. had horrible sicknesses and most places the english landed was really ****ty. swamp lands full of mosquitos that spread malaria. the death rate was extremely high around 50%.
we definitely have a larger generation gap between settlement and now tho.

I think it's that gap since both countires foundations and now, which have made both countires have diff opinions when it comes to working.

in america the only ways to make good money are work hard with your brain, get lucky, or a few people can make money with a skilled labor trade(this market is severely atrophied after the creation of mass production).

edit: i should say with the skilled labor its usually a rare skill that makes money, like piano refurbishing and repair.

It really isn't fair to compare generations. The greastest generation didn't endure the depression and wwII because they were stronger, they endured it because they had no choice.

I consider myself fortunate to have lived 42 years in a relatively peaceful and prosperous world. If the trends in the following link continue, the time for us to show our mettle may be coming...

that probably why. americans probably no less about australians then most other cultures. i think we view it as just a extension of our society, thats on a big island with alot of desert in the middle.
known for: crocodiles thanks to steve irwin, koalas, kangaroos, dingos, a big reef, vegimite, and some mean jellyfish.

but its a good thing, for us to really take a interest you must:either be a threat to us, have been a threat,we fought a war in your country, or have horrible problems.

i must say you would probably be a prime vacation spot if mexico wasnt so close:grinno:

that's funny, because in WWII your nation used our nation as a depot.

everyone just blew this out of perspective. you get a couple of yanks force feeding him all this stuff irrelevant to what he asked in the first post. He's saying he's upset because everyone is soft compared to those from 100 years ago.

Answer this question.

would today's generations survive one of the british fleets as a convict on the way to Australia or a place around that distance of travel?

that's what he's asking, not can this dumb yank poor concrete and level it, and is tommy lazy because he pushes a button every day.

yea being a supply shed doesnt get you much recognition. :(

edit: and to answer your question yes i think most would. given your only other option is dying, most people would change pretty fast. the only way to bring out great strength is with great adversity. given the choice our ancestors would be just as lazy and pudgy as us
