Just because it worked for you once does not mean it is right. Thats like someone keeping comets with a red ear slider and saying it's ok because their turtle is not eating the fish. They just got lucky... Very rarely will your method work out in a positive manner, especially in the more intelligent larger psicattiformes. not to mention trying that with anything larger than a budgie or cockatiel and you are really asking for some pain. Try that with a macaw.....
You have to be persistent with it and patient, it does work, and it is FAR less stressful on the animal. With birds being as sensitive to stress as they are you could actually kill a smaller bird by that method... thats not quite as likely to happen with animals that are captive bred for years than it is with wild caught birds but it is still a risk.
