I like version one's pump placement
The shorter the suction side plumbing is the better, IMO.
I like version two's spraybars. Essentially two separate systems. I'm a big fan of redundant systems.
If one pump quits the other keeps going.
Are the pumps "self Priming" ?

I think the gravitational flow rates are for non siphons. I've got the 1" primary drain on my 75 cut down to about halfway open with a ball valve (full siphon), and it supports almost all the ~550 GPH flow rate from the pump (the excess goes down the secondary drain). The chart says the max is 600 GPH

Just making a "drain trap" to keep water in the system in case of power failure.

Experiment time

Tried my theory out, God what a miserable failure (got my morning bath in the process tho LOL). Should have guessed but what the heck, nothing ventured nothing gained. So conclusion, Pump submersed and push the water into the filter.

Intakes can not keep up with the pump.. Intake is 1" pvc, and pump is 780 gph. So should I hard plumb the pump to the intake or add a second intake to the housing?
