Question for the Oscar owners

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the replies. the Albino looks pretty beat up and just hides in a rock now most of the time. Hopefully it'll stop before to long.
It's around this point that you need to divide them or remove one.

I have 5 albino in my tank. No major aggression between them at all. Size wise is at 6 inches.

The tub is 300 gallons 69x63 1/4 x 25

Excellent water volume, but an odd footprint and not ideal for a pair of fish like this to get away from each other.

Like others have said, once oscars reach sexual maturity and decide they're not getting along, the standard solution is to just separate them. It is possible to make it work out with enough tank footprint and decor to break up the light of sight, but it's easier to just separate the two fish.

It's difficult to find a pair of oscars that will tolerate each other. I've seen it supposedly work in small, severely overcrowded tanks, but I think the fish are just so unhealthy in this environment that they're just trying to survive.

I guess I'll just have to separate them. You did mention breaking he light and I noticed when the lights are off and there is just a lamp far off but still just bright enough for me to see they are fine. The albino is right next to the tiger like it always has been. But if I have to keep the light off its pointless. My idea of even doing this was at a lfs near me they had a huge tub probably 4-500 gallons and they had two massive oscars in there. I wanted to get a tub where the two I thought would always get along would be able to grow as big as they possibly could.
