Hello everyone.

I have a 2 questions, which may seem silly but as a female fish keeper I like to paint my nails and wear jewelry.

So Question 1

If I paint my nails, will the nail polish effect my saltwater setup? Since there is nothing but chemicals in nail polish I have refrained from painting my nails and having my hand in the tank since I don't want anything to come out of the nail polish and into the tank.

Question 2

Is it okay to keep my rings on while my hands are in my tanks? My husband said to keep my rings out. Will the saltwater pull stuff off my rings and into my tanks?

Not sure about the rings, but I would think that nail polish would be OK as long as it is fully cured.

im not sure with saltwater, but iv always got polish and jewellery and perfume on...and usually moisturiser....lol i think its oddballer that does that too lol
never had any prob and no spikes in water.

The salt will tarnish/corrode everything with the exception of Gold or Platinum. If the ring has heavy detailing like banding you can get salt and other crap that will irritate if not promptly removed, usually requiring you to remove the ring to wash it. The nail polish is unlikely to damage the tank if cured but the tank will damage your nail polish. The easiest thing would be to get shoulder length gloves save you the hassle.

I'd keep your hands as clean as possilbe when working in a tank. Not that everything will have a negative impact, but there's no need in risking it.

im notorious for not taking my watch off when i go after something in my tank, but like said before, i always end up having to wash it off anyway, so taking off metal is much easier than cleaning it.

Work at a large Fish store... All of the females there have jewelry and nails that are painted. No issues and it is not a requirement to not wear either.

Just be sure to have you're rings (underneath them) as clean as possible before inserting into tank. Nail polish, Id advise a 24hr wait before inserting into tank.

Well for question 1 any nail polish, soap film, oil's from sunscreen or lotion can affect your fish so be sure to clean your hand's well and use liquid soap not bar soap when you wash so no soap can get caught under your finger nails'.

for question 2 I would be safe and wear a latex glove or just take the ring's off so the saltwater doesn't affect your ring's in any way to play it safe.

what are the rings made of?

gold is completely innert, powdercoated or plated metals can rub off

im not familiar with nail polish... can you go swimming and have it stay pretty much the same?
if so i guess it's fine, but as zoodiver said, why risk it?
