Hi quick introduction, I'm 26, carpenter of 10 years blah blah blah
Anyway I am going to be building a stand for a new tank I've aquired - 6*2*2
Right I'm planning on making a stand 7ft long 3ft high and 2ft deep but I'm going to being putting a 4ft maybe a 5ft tank underneath, the stand will be made of 6 by 2. The question is. Will 6 by 2 spanning 5ft wih supports either end be strong enough. I will be putting 5 lengths of 6 by 2 at six inch spacings across the top. (I do have a plan Ive drawn but don't know how to put it on here)
I'm pretty sure it will but just want your guys opinions please.
Thanks
joe

should be plenty i would assume m8 (carpenter also) probably over engineered tbh i bought a cheap 4x2x2 a while back which now lies in my back garden and the stand i got with it was only built using 2x2 and 18mm ply personally didnt thing it would have taken the weight but it did for many months in the shop. 6x2 would probably be over engineering it could probably get away with 4x2 and plenty supports but if ur planing a sump then 6x2 and maybe 4 supports runing across the front using either 6x2 again or 4x2. are u using 6x2 for the base aswell as the tank to sit on? i would. always best to over engineer rather than try to just "get away with it" imo. u going to cover it with marine ply or clading etc cupboards etc?

I will be cladding it in a oak veneered plywood and oak beading which I acquired from a job.
I want just over a 5ft span clear of supports for my 4ft tank I've i got ( 5ft so I've got options of putting a bigger tank in) This tank will be for fish as well, will have a sump elsewhere for the 6 footer.
I may use 5 by 2 but i may have enough 6 by 2 lying about to do the job
