Question of timber width for stand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you're really worried about it, just build it like a huge window opening..... make a header for the front with 2 by 6's and make sure you have plenty of supports for this on each side of the header since you will not have center supports. if you are using a glass tank for the top, you should be fine. glass tanks only need support on the 4 corners really. if you build the stand with 2 by 6 joists going across, especially with the header idea i gave you, your stand will definitely support anything that fits on it

Thats exactly what i planned just with another support five foot in .
Wasn't going to have any timbers running along the bottom on the floor but have them running under the floor to tie the legs together

quick note....using a 2x6 along the top instaed of 2x4 will give you less clearance. fyi.
you don't think that a carpenter would know that a 2x6 takes up more space than a 2x4?:screwy:

I always thought 2 by 4 took up more space than 6 by 2 , silly me.
Anyway i have started building the stand got all the frame work done and picked up the tank and at the mo it is in the garage full of water. not leaking yet, but hopefully won't
