Question on American Bullheads?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
125 gal might be fine for a speckled bullhead Ameiurus serracanthus, don't know where you would find one other than fishing for it in Lake Talquin though. Stone cats only get to just over 1' so they are a good option. They are kind of cold water though, I've kept them at 75 f. with no problems.

i raised a brown bullheaded catfish for 3 years, got him when he was 4 inches, he's now 7ish, slow grower but the most gentle fish, all it does is hide in its cave decor, comes out at night though.

I have kept them in groups, only bullheads though. have tried to put them with sunfish bass etc. but bulls always ate all the food. They can be aggressive though, if they are kept with other fish that are bottom dwellers. Had some with channels and the channels didnt last long. bull heads would attack the soft stomachs of the channels and eat them. It seems like they are never full no matter how much you feed them. They are my favorite cat, most personable and are perfect for the home aquarium or backyard pond. keep them with lmb and they make a perfect combo if the bulls are big enough that the bass dosent eat them. They like bullheads they must taste good.
