would it be okay if i use ceramic rings as my tank's substrate/gravel? can good bacteria grow on em? without that much water flow as in a sump? maybe put in some rocks too. bcs i have some excess ceramic rings that cant fit in my sump anymore haaha.

thanks ;)

Yes, it would be ok

It would be ok, not sure how beneficial it would be though if you already have a sump full of rings thought, are you having problems with water quality or just adding more media for the heck of it? IMO it would look terrible and would be of such little benefit that it wouldn't be worth doing.

Sure. But it's a waste of money and doesn't colonize bacteria like it does in a filter.

They'll collect more waste than its worth.

Yes, ceramic rings are designed to be very porous and act as a bio filter. Used at the bottom of the tank, they'll collect debris (dust, dead bacteria), have very limited water flow, get mixed in with the substrate. They are better than gravel to start with, but once they start getting clogged, I'm not sure if they will be much better at the end. I'd simply hold on to them or trade/give them to a friend.

yeah im just adding more media just for the heck of it.

and would it be ok if i place em in a mesh bag in my last sump compartment where i have my pump in it? would collect it more bacteria as in the other compartments?

You do realize gravel collects bacteria, right? In a pinch, gravel can be used as biomedia.
