and what if i place a bunch of ceramic rings in bags in the last compartment of my sump ( the pump compartment) would it bb thrive?

You can place ceramic rings in a bag, and put it wherever you want, in your sump, or in your tank, and it would work just fine.

I don't understand what you want to accomplish here. Of course if you put biomedia in your filter it would collect bacteria.

Okay. i get it guys. haha. its just that this is my first time using a sump. sorry. and i been cycling the my 180g tank for 2 weeks nw. i havent gotten any nitrite reading yet n im just paranoid that i dont hv enuff bio filtration.
n i used bacteria additives: mark weiss cycle something.

said i cn fully cycle my tank by 2 days. lol. anyways thanks for the info guys
