I'm no expert or anything like that, but I have to agree with that last response,storebought driftwood is the safe way to go. Good luck and happy fish-keeping!!!

the back is kinked, it was like that when i got it. he said he didnt know how it happened but it still feeds and swims fine, it is kinked a little to the left and up in the center. im kind of assuming the sunfish will get eaten eventually, the pike growing 10x faster than the gar will be moved, almost everything is temporary, especially keeping fish in a 90 gal aquarium.

some fake plants rooted to the bottom will work, and i have always used water sprite for floating plants. this will block too much light from spooking the gars by giving overhead 'security' to them. bottom driftwood isn't necessary since it will just serve as an obstacle the gar can run into...small pieces are ok though.

Okay maybe I'm not reading this right but could you elaborate on what type of plants I should have for my 3 needle nose gar.

I want to get some this weekend and want to make sure I'm making the right choice.

Ps. I have a 55gal tank for now if that helps you figure out what plants is best for me, and I also want fake plants.

fake floating plants that will cover the surface of the water is what i have seen needle fish to enjoy. they like to hang out near the surface underneath vegetation.

Small kink no big deal.... the sun fish is small...Gar ever try to attack it??
mine will attack anything no matter how big or small...
that is why he lives pretty much alone
