Question on growth rate for jaguar cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
could be a female....my male jag grew faster then my oscar's. but died at 8'', damn bugger jumped out the tank. so i'll say, 0.5'' to 1'' a month for the first year, then slows down after that.

male jags have a reasonable growth rate id say IME .75-1.25" a month for the first year but for females isnt a different story.

Males and female Jaguars groth rates are the same up to a point, I grew a few on from fry, there was 2 that was always bigger than the others, in the end the biggest 2 was 7inches where as others was still only 3 - 4inches, the 2 bigger ones was 1x male and 1x female that formed a pair.

well shane, the female which i got from tony didnt grow any more then an inch in the7-8 months i had her.

thats what im getting at, my males from the 10 I grew on was way smaller than the big female, both male and female Jags grow at there own pase, no "rule" on it.

Plus you have to think the female you had from Mr Umbee was quite big, with that female you had you would not expect to get the same groth out of her as you would a juv Jaguar Cichlid.

Ive had mine about 6 months and hes near doubled:headbang2

I've only had one jag so far and it has grown about 6-7" in about a year. So I would have to agree with about 1/2" per month.
