unless you've got an infared heat lamp you'd be better off leaving the heater on during the night(when they're most active) and turning it off in the mornings, house tend to get a bit cold during the night. at the moment mine stays in the mid/high-seventies during the day but gets into the low/mid sixties during the night. make sure that you've got multiple hides placed around the tank, that way you don't just have one on the hot side.

yea thats the reason i didnt know whether to leave it on or not cuz it gets cold at night.........i guess with the lamp it'll be ok during the day and just have the heater on in the afternoon into the night

you really want to get a controller for the UTH and an infared heat bulb. i just found out that my leopard geckos got burned by my UTH because it was too hot, the female isn't looking too great. i made the mistake of 1) not having a controller on the UTH 2) not checking the temp. 3) putting their prefered hide almost directly ontop of the heater 4) not replacing the heat bulb when it broke. they didn't want to leave the hide that was too hot because the other's where too cold, enstead the larger male just climbed on top of the female.

Well i have a thermometer on both ends of the tank to check the hot and the cold side.......its been at 86 degrees pretty consistently on the hot side and 72-74 degrees on the cold..........the UTH is under the hot side and the substrate is two layers of paper towels and then a couple ceramic tiles to hold the heat a little bit.......i have a sun glo bulb from exo terra for the tank http://www.exo-terra.com/EN/products/sun_glo_neodymium_i.html , thats the one i have........i think im gonna leave the heater on for a couple more hours and just keep checking the thermometer to make sure its not getting too hot...........
