Which media, which basket. Carbon on top, Sponges on the bottom, Bio in the middle. How do you do yours??

Which fitler do you have? Either way I do not use any carbon or polishing pads in any of my cannisters.

I have a Fluval 403, the reason I am asking is because it says to use the sponges in the top layer. Well I cleaned it yesterday, and there was no waste in the sponges, it was all in the bottom layer where the carbon is. Kinda wierd, also my water was not as clear running it that way, also once I put everything back together and turned the filter on, I shot all the waste back into the tank. I took it apart again, and put the sponges in the bottom, and the tank is as clear as i have seen it ever.

Sorry I'm not real familiar with the fluvals. In all my canisters the water first runs through "Fluval prefilter" or "Eheim ehfimech" the through coarse sponges, fine sponges then finally through the biomedia. I do not use my canister filters for mechanical filtration, main purpose is biofiltration and the mechanical media I have in place is for keeping the biomedia from getting gunked up.

Sounds like this is the way it should be then.

The water is suppose to be cloudy and have waste floating around. Does not seem right.

I have the sponges on top to catch the waste. Then I have ceramic rings through the rest. Water flows from the top down.
