Hi there I've just placed 1inch thick slate tiles along the bottom of on of my tanks. no there is a slight gap between the edge of the tiles and the glass about half a centimeter and they also have the odd little gap where they dont sit 100% flush next to each other now my question is i dont want to fill these in with any filler or sealant to make it permanent incase I change my mind but is there any suggestions for you guys to fill it in or should i just leave it how it is? i dont want bits of food and waste to get stuck in the tiny gaps. anyways thanks for reading.

I want to use the tiles but need suggestions on how to keep water quality as good as possible hence why i dont want food & waste to get stuck between the gaps. :)

A really thin, light layer of silicone between the tiles should keep anything from getting underneath them and causing problems, but should also be easily pealed off if needed. The key would be to keep it covering the gap without getting too far down into them.

you know this is my major dilemma as of now... i am considering tiling my 185 but i am in a fix.... to make matters worse i have bottom braces as well so the gap in the center is my worry.... so this is what ive come to the conclusion at.... il place the tile with the center bottom gap and just make sure i clean up the bottom on my weekly WC... other than that i am watchin this thread as well ;)

I have tile on the bottom of my 90 gallon with gaps between all of them, I just vacume the gaps and my water quality is great. I have 4 tanks and the tile tank and the bare bottom tank easily have the best waer quality. The sand tank and the river rock tank always havemore issues comparitively.

Hey buddy... care to post up some pics?

interesting actually.... using black sand?

well yeah i intended to if people thought this was an ok idea.

the only reason I dont wanna leave any gaps really is because they are an inch deep tiles so its quiet far down for waste to fall even though the gaps are very small.
