Question regarding tank capatability

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:screwy: :WHOA: ive had people come in to the store and try to set up tanks like this. the good things about musky, they dont always get 50 lbs. in captivity, it might reach 30, which is still LARGE, but they dont move around as much as a pike would. they are musch more of an ambush predator. at least this guys is starting well, he has over 200 gallons. a guys came into the store, wanting to buy 2 florida gar and a pictus cat to put into his tank. then i asked him how big is the tank, and he started laughing. he said it was an experimantal tank. he had a whole bunch of fish in there, koi, tetras, minnows, angels, catfish. and i agiain asked, how big is the tank, than he said, 50 gallons. so i asked how many fish are in there, and he proceded to say 10 minnows, 2 angels, 12 tetras, and get this. FIFTEEN KOI  if i didnt like my job, i woulda sluged him on the spot. than, he goes, buys a 10 gallon, comes back in a week, and asked to buy the pictus, and i said, not really a good idea. so he left, came back the next day, and bought it from a nother employee. :screwy: on top of that, he said the experimental tank is going good, cuz the smaller fish are getting eaten, and the week fish are dying off, and thats cool. :irked: so, i dont deal with him anymore.

I have a 265 gallon tank, have 6 muskies and peacock bass, pikes and a gar, they all get along fine, however i just added a 13" (same size as muskies) redtail catfish, some people i talked to said everyone will be fine as long as i keep feeding them all a lot like i do now, others said the redtail will slowly eat everyone in there haha...any recommendations/comments? thanks

The only thing missing from your tank is a sturgeon and a 2 foot snapping turtle.

cooler than the muskies? i doubt it donkey, they are some of the neatest fish ive had

Ever seen (or heard of) grass or redfin pickerel, donkey?

and the tank isnt big enough for one what?

Six large Esox Donkey. That's certainly a big tank but isn't big enough to house one large Esox IMO. I guess a human could live in that tank but it wouldn't be very comfortable.

 I am so confused! Why are we still talking about donkeys?!

What the, 15 KOIS in a 50 gallon tank?! Did you said to him that KOIS grow about 15-20 iches? Maybe he's planning on stunting them, you think?

I'm not fond of a bunch of name calling Chad. I didn't think your reply warranted such a name so I threw it back at him. It's odd that a guy that has 6 muskies and peacock bass, pike, gar and an RTC in the same tank is calling anyone a donkey. Maybe he wasn't calling anyone a name but actually also has a donkey swimming in the tank as well.

And let's go here too. That guy's tank can only house 4 of those adult peacock alone, why do people embarass themselves and say there gonna stock like this.I hope your happy when everything eats everything then the resulting ich and high nitrates and ammonia do the rest:D

I have seen a bunch of native fish kept in a 100 gal ( made from a 4X8 plywood) ; at least a couple years. Muskie, crappie ,lake perch, blue gills.bullhead, etc. He had heavy aeration and threw in an order of minnows about once a week . In a basement in a Chicago suburb, many yr ago. I can't remember what happened when he moved to FL.

Well of course it lasted that long, he was only feeding them once a week. If he fed them like he should then he would have ]V[onsters instead of stunted fish.
