Question regarding tiger oscar pair value

I'd offer what you feel they are worth. If they're exactly what you're looking for and you've not found another option elsewhere, then it's worth it to pay a higher price imo.

Offer what is reasonable to you. If $100 is too high, don't pay it. I wouldn't pay anywhere close to that much for two Oscars. I would consider paying a bit of cash for WC though. I have seen some outstanding WC and F1 Oscars. But common ones are too easily found on Craigslist or donated to pet stores. But price is ultimately up to the person seeking the fish. While I may not pay anything for two oscars, another person may not pay $100 on a fish that i would pay for. it's all up to the market and the individual. Offer them what you fell comfortable paying and if they decline, no big deal. You can buy smaller Oscars and grow them out to that size very quickly. Good luck to you.

I've never heard of any customers who have breeding pairs of oscars where I work. 100 is a bit steep, but 8"+ specimens go for 25 dollars usually and do sell quickly if they have a nice pattern. Each store is different, but I know if you offered nearly half of what we sell fish for, the employees might not respect you and may not give you any future deals on fish.

It seems the assumption here, at least from some, is that I want to breed them, which isn't the case. I simply wanted a good looking, matching pair to display. While I understand your concern for their health, I've seen them 2-3 times in person, and compared to most fish store O's, they're healthy. They haven't been in the fish store tank for long, hence why I said that I believe they were donated. Also, the shop isn't close enough to me for me to get pics, so that isn't happening.

Looks like I'll go in offering like $40, but I'm going to assume I'll be laughed at. Not a huge loss, however, they can have fun moving 2 extra 8 inch fish if they want.

Well if it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure any legitimate fish keeper that has a bit of knowledge in fish's values as far as resale would laugh at them for trying to sell the pair for 100$. (and for housing them in a 40g)

If all you want is a pair then why don't you go buy a pair of juveniles and grow them up from juvenile size in a proper sized tank? That way you don't have to ever worry about their health since you've had them from the beginning, it's still hit or miss if they will get along when they hit maturity but having them as juveniles definitely will help, and that shouldn't cost you more than 10-15$. Why are you set on these O? If it's because they are already 8", the juveniles, if bought at 1-2", will easily hit this size within 5-6 months no problem.

I guess I just don't see why you're set on this specific pair of O. Specially since the seller is definitely unaware of their value and trying to charge an obscured price. Just seems like a hassle as opposed to goin' and grabbin' two juvie O's, savin' yourself some time and money. They're fun when they're little too. :) It's quite enjoyable to have them when they're little and then a year later be like "damn you were so small" heh'.

You should just wait till your lfs has a pair of juvies that you really like. In my opinion its better to buy your fish as juvies and enjoy how they grow. I bought my oscars at 1inch its been almost 5 months and they are 7 inches. You should just buy some juvies and with the rest of the money buy something else for your fish tank. What size of tank do you have for.the oscars you are planning to buy? What other fish do you plan on having?

I definitely would not spend more than $60.00 dollars for a very common fish. You could go to many fish stores and but 6 and wait for them to pair off. Walmart actually have some of the best looking oscars I have seen in a while.
