my 19 yr old cousin has a 150 gallon tank with several cichlids red terrors, buttis, manguense, gt, and so on----all of his fish are 1.5-2 inches in length...he has an oscar about 6 maybe 7 inches that has some sentimental value to him:screwy: and he still lives at home with his parents in his medium sized bedroom----his question to me was because his space is unbelievably limited and he cant set up another tank due to space and electrical bills, would it work if he placed a 20 gallon long with a lockable screen top inside of his 150 sort of a tank inside a tank and lock the oscar inside the 20, he's afraid the much larger oscar will eat his cichlids----i've never heard of this idea but dont see no reason it wouldnt work until his cichlids put on some size--my only question would be how would he feed the oscar without him getting out---i suggested a divider but he's hell bent on this idea---would it work

?? ahha that dosnt sound too good ild go with the divider the 20 gallon idea dosnt seem possible and the divider sounds alot better for the oscar

why put the 20 gallon inside the 150? a 20 gallon long really isn't that tall, the best bet would be buy a divider for it

Maybe he should try a divider instead of putting the fish in a home that is unsuitable for it.

x222

I was actually considering something similar when I picked a new fish that was really small (except it would have been the small fish inside) but decided against it as feeding him would be very difficult.

20 gal wudnt have great width for the oscar, divider is the way forward

Well look at this way..Would u put an Oscar that u have sentimental value for in a 20 gallon!!... Sell the others and keep ur oscar in ur 150 with maybe only a few tankmates if he does care for his O..

x2 . . . keep the Oscar and a couple of tankmates . . . an Oscar in a 20G is unacceptable anyway

correction-----the oscar is 2inches that he wants to put in the 20 gallon the other fish are 6inches and up----its not my fish but when i spoke to him for whatever reason he doesnt want a divider
