Question why do people feal the need to use the word retard?

Why do people feal the need to use this word? Do you think special needs people arent people to? Or is it you dont think theres any special needs people on the forum? or that members of the forum none of us may have a special needs person in the family? I notice more AND more people using this word like its ok. I dont see people saying cracker, the n word, the b word, or any of the other slurs that people can use but yet,. Members of this forum feal the need every day to use it . To define or explain a topic person or place. It shouldnt be acepted on the forum. People say hey this forum is for educational purposes and schools and student exc are supose to be fealing wellcome and comfortable on the forum.
My son happens to be in a wheelchair. He just cant walk would u call him a retard? I mean come on people. I no for a fact im not the only member with a special needs family member . And i no for fact some of the members on here are special needs people. Just saying how do u think it makes these people feal?


I would love to no how the mods and other members of this educational forum feal about this?

best part of this thread is watching the view count rise and not one person comenting. I no if someone says a curse word , racial slur they get points banned exc what happens when people use words like this?
one search on forum for word retard shows 20 pages of threads with the word retard in them somewhere 500 threads with retard

Because the one who uses that word has not been upgraded to aware that word is a "medical" term now, not just a slur. In other words, the person who uses that word is.... well you figure it out... At some work place, using that word would earn yourself a reprimand, a free trip to behavior training class, or worst, a law suit.

I'll chime in. My nephew has down syndrome and is a great kid. I used to use this word all of the time in my younger years as a general term before he came into our lives. After having a personnal connection to someone who doesn't deserve to be labeled like that, I no longer use it. Up until that point I just didn't see it as a big deal at the time. I don't take it to offense when people use it though, I just assume they haven't been given a reason to take offense to it and they are lucky for that.

In my opinion it is just a matter of people having thought nothing of it, until it hits home.. It was for me anyway (just being honest).

I don't like the word.

Not only is it an insulting term for a mentally disabled person, it is also a flat-out insult. Basic forum etiquette says you can contend other member's positions/opinions, but not use derogatory terms for other members

I think most,if not all of the times the word has been used here the intent was to insult someone, with no regard one way or another towards those with developemental difficulties.

I use the word retard... it has nothing to do with NOT experiencing this kind of thing in my life.. it's just a word for me..
