Question why do people feal the need to use the word retard?

I use the word retard... it has nothing to do with NOT experiencing this kind of thing in my life.. it's just a word for me..

The word fat and word retard dont have any relationship. Being fat 99 percent of time you can do something about. Being a special needs person wheres the choice . U let me down fishmama

Yeah but its the context which the word is used in i see what shes saying. Both words can be used as an insult and used in a daily usage, That doesn't mean someone is being immature.

again where does a person being fat versus special needs have anything in common. If someone is fat again 99 percent of the time they can go on a diet and fix that. Special needs people dont have that option. I wish my kid could change his diet and be able to walk that would be the greatest but he dont have that choice. Wish my sons condition was as simple as needing a diet.

Times are changing. The world is not what it was just 20 years ago. Society evolves and changes due to social and political adjustments. What was acceptable yesterday is not always a benefit to today. True and productive change improves upon the status of society and strenghtens the race -- The human race. What makes one word bad and another good? If the plan is to insult someone why would you need perameters? If you feel the need to display your ignorance try missspellllinggg something. How you talk say's more about yourself than someone else. There's no need to get more uptight at being called a retard than a thief. Words are nothing more than a means to express a thought or thoughts. If the word fits use it, but be careful. expressing some thoughts will get you punched in the head, or worse, banned from your favorite forum.

Nearly every word offends someone somewhere. Are we as a species simply going to stop communicating with each other for fear of insulting someone with something?? I agree, we shouldn't be antagonizing other people with insults, no one wants to be made small, but calling something retarded is simply a statement, like saying that water is wet.

...+1 i also call things ***..(.so you cant say g a y on this forum when when talking about it hmm) ...and a few of my best friends are ***. they are words and the only reason the OP is getting upset about it is because of his kid (or whoevers).

..they are just words and only hurt you if you let them...they are not calling YOUR kid a retard when someone says that word in a different context.

I highly doubt that most people are saying that something is delayed or made slow when they are calling something retarded. If you call something retarded you more likely mean "stupid" or some other adjective meaning unintelligent. This is why using the word "retard" or "retarded" is almost always offensive. It is even more offensive to people who have seen mentally disabled people suffer under the appellation.

Saying that "calling something retarded is simply a statement, like saying that water is wet" is only correct if you are saying something like "The fire was retarded by the application of foam". Otherwise it certainly isn't a statement of fact but rather of one's opinion.
