I actually found a quick way to reuse buckets... fill up the buckets with the dirty water and the keep rising it until any old smell from whatever it was previously and wait one day to use it..
I own two cats and they use about 1 bucket of cat litter every 2 months.. (40lbs buckets)
They work fine after i rise it... the only thing is that their square shaped so I dont get as much water like the home deport buckets..
And their about 11bucks each time, (cost of the litter)
