Gotta start training them early! By the time they're 6 inches they should be able to read Dr. Suess.

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish

Mine can! :naughty:

i would say that there intelligence is high among characins but low compared to other fish like cichlids
i would say that statement describes them pretty well.

I'd say the smartest quality about them is their skittishness...without that they would be another feeder fish.

you took the words out of my mouth. I was gonna post something like that yesterday but got too busy and forgot.

Of all the fish Ive had I think Oscars have been the smartest. They could recognize me from other people. They could tell me when they were hungry by bumping the lid when I walk by. They just seem the most aware of their condition and were more like a pet then a fish. I wish there was a dwarf variety or something. I dont have a giant tank and they outgrow a 55 pretty quick.

in my opinion piranha are highly intelligent. whenever i look into my young rhoms eyes it really seems like hes thinking of something. its veryinteresting staring at my rhom. hes very sneaky and seems like a silent killer whos planning something. and he is impossible to catch compared to cichlids. i think piranhas are smarter than any cichlid.....
