Do you know how big the fry are, how many he's getting, and how much water he's going to have in the container?

Fair enough point, I guess, but I've transported fish over a considerable distance many times - different sizes, water amounts. I've never used an air pump (outside of maybe putting some air in the bag initially) and never had any problems. If you're getting them from a store, just let them know you have a long trip ahead. Usually they will ask. If you're getting it from somebody breeding fish and they know how far your traveling, more than likely they'll take the same steps when bagging them. Many fish can go for hours, even days without air supplied to the water.

I've never lost fish due to suffocation during transport either, but I have come close when I went to meetings/auctions and had to stay there for a few hours. The movement of the car should agitate the water surface, which helps, but I'd still suggest an airstone just to be safe is there's going to be a whole bunch of fish......so he won't come back next week and say "weren't you the guy that said I didn't need an airstone??" ;)

This poor guy is going to be over thinking this. If you have a seller that knows how to pack fish, you are not going to need an air pump, dude. No one here has ever had fish shipped with an air pump in the bag. So long as your seller bags the fish correctly, appropriate number of fish per bag, enough water, enough air in the bag... your fish will have no problems making it for 6 hours. If anyone lost bagged fish in that time frame, it was simply because the fish were not bagged correctly.

Just be sure your seller knows what he/she is doing as it pertains to packaging your fish. If you have a seller inexperienced with that kind of thing, then you have to worry about it. So long as your seller knows what he/she is doing, and are willing to guarantee your fish safe travel... you should be fine.

Right. Packed in bags with O2 will work. I was thinking a bucket/cooler/styrofoam box.

I've transported fish a few times and the biggest help I've had is if I had to move smaller fish I found that sucking up to the local Petsmart manager helps sometimes. I was able to bring the fish in and have him repack them with the oxygen and larger bags.

Definitely use a minature back massager to ease some tension too. And occasionally add a drop or two of Patron to relax them, LOL

Actually depending on the weather or transport is how you will go about this. Don't put in trunk since I know its cold, put in front seat if riding alone (you'll have heater on already).

I buy fish constantly from LA to Central Valley which is a 4 hour drive and the fish are always good. Remember to let them know you are travelling far so that they put enough water and fresh air...Good Luck
